Refer to the General Rules and Information section at the front of this syllabus before filling out entry forms.

                                                 PROCEDURE
Arrive at the venue at least 15 minutes before scheduled performance time. 

Clip the registration slip to the page of the selection to be performed. When your name is called, take your music to the Adjudicator’s Secretary before proceeding to the performance floor or stage. After the class, please pick up music from the Adjudicator’s secretary. 

Da capo signs should be observed. Repeat signs should ordinarily be ignored, but at the discretion of the teacher and student, may be observed where deemed appropriate.  

Participants will be adjudicated according the following age groups:
Junior             14 and under
Intermediate   15-18
Senior            19-28
Adult Open    29 +

                                            VOICE CLASSES 

ADDITIONAL REPERTOIRE
Refers to additional repertoire that participants wish to perform in a category in which they are already entered. For example - a second Art Song or Canadian Song, excluding Musical Theatre. 

ART SONG
A song of serious artistic intent, written by a trained composer. Selections may be from English, Victorian, or contemporary periods; from Italian Arie Antiche, French “Chansons” and German Lieder. May be sung in original or English translation. No Oratorio or Sacred. 

CANADIAN COMPOSER  
Work by a recognized Canadian composer. 

LIST A  
A selection from the List A section of the current or previous Royal Conservatory of Music or Conservatory Canada Syllabus.  

LIST B  
A selection from the List B section of the current or previous Royal Conservatory of Music or Conservatory Canada Syllabus. 

LIST C – (GRADE 7 AND UP)
A selection from the List C section of the current or previous Royal Conservatory of Music or Conservatory Canada Syllabus.  

FOLK SONG
A selection from traditional (example-ethnic) music that has no identifiablecomposer. May be sung in original language or English translation. May be a non-syllabus piece. 

NON COMPETITIVE OWN CHOICE PIECE – NON SYLLABUS
One selection only, grade level must be consistent with other entries – refer to copyright rule as above. 

MUSICAL THEATRE BALLAD SOLO  
Selection may be from any staged production or motion picture. Costumes, choreography, hand prop and one simple stage prop may be used.  

MUSICAL THEATRE COMEDY SOLO  
Selection may be from any staged production or motion picture. Costumes, choreography, hand prop and one simple stage prop may be used.  

NON-COMPETITIVE
Any class may be entered non-competitively. Classes will be scheduled separately from competitive classes. Participants will receive a verbal and written critique of their performances(s). 

CONCERT PROGRAM  
Two or three contrasting selections. (One mark only given)  

DUET, TRIO, ENSEMBLE
Any period. Please include all performers names and information on the entry form. Grade level is that of the most advanced performer. 

OPERATIC ARIA  
Grade 9 and over: An often elaborate composition for solo voice with instrumental accompaniment. (Part of a larger work). 

ORATORIO  
Grade 9 and over: A narrative or dramatic work, usually Sacred, employing arias, recitatives, ensembles, choruses and orchestral music, but not intended to be staged.  

ORIGINAL COMPOSITION
An original composition which must be written and performed by the participant. A copy of the score must be delivered to the festival committee by March 15, 2012.  

***Piano accompaniment (live) only is permitted (no recorded music).
Participants must provide their own accompanist and make sure that all musical scores are original. See copyright regulations. 

                                                   CHOIRS 
1. Titles of selections must be submitted by the February 1^st deadline for inclusion in the program.
2. Live piano accompaniment only. No recorded music permitted.
3. Choirs must provide the adjudicator with an original score. Only authorized copies of music are acceptable - See copyright policy information.
4. Choirs must stay for the duration of their class. Directors, please ensure students observe proper concert etiquette.
5. A total of 30 minutes will be allotted for warm up, performance and adjudication.  

SCHOOL CHOIRS 

Elementary School Choirs: 2-3 selections, contrasting in style and tempo. 
                                         Please specify grade levels of participants. 

Middle School Choirs: 3 selections, contrasting in style and tempo.              
                                   Please specify grade levels of participants.  

Secondary School Choirs: 3 selections, contrasting in style and tempo.             
                                    Please specify grade levels of participants. 

COMMUNITY CHOIRS

Community Youth Choirs: 2 - 3 selections, contrasting in style and tempo. Community Adult Choirs:   2 - 3 selections, contrasting in style and tempo.
